Authenticating Krugerrands
What are some good ways to authenticate Krugerrands?
|
Re: Authenticating Krugerrands
The easiest and most sure way is to use a Fisch instrument and a good loop under a good light to check the fine detail and overall quality of the die the coin was stamped with; check that there are no little "pimples" depressions, small raised tool marks, faulty edge, & other tell-tale indications of a counterfeit.
If you can't access a AGE/Krugerrand Fisch instrument take it to a dealer you trust and ask him/her to look at it. Or you can: 1. Check the weight, 2. Check the diameter and thickness with calipers, and as suggested above, 3. use a good loop under a good light to check the fine detail and overall quality of the die the coin was stamped with...etc. The odds are VERY high that the coin is legitimate if it's weight and dimensions are right. |

No Fisch for pandas. And those things cost more than a caliper and digital scale which would do the same thing to verify any coin.
